Because it is becoming harder and harder to find common ground with anyone. Any little thing these days can turn into an explosive issue that will turn everyone in the room on each other. 30 years ago people used to be united just by their attempts to get through day to day life. I remember cartoons in which the hero would save the villian's life or do something nice for him just out of sympathy for the way he had become, just to prove a point. Now no one thinks about even their own needs anymore-only what they want. This will only end in catastrophe for everyone.
