Euthanasia is the practice of terminating the life of a person or animal in a painless or minimally painful way in order to stop suffering or other undesired conditions in life. This may be voluntary or involuntary, and carried out with or without a physician. In a medical environment, this can be carried out by oral, intravenous or intramuscular drug administration.

well, it literally means mercy killing. WHile this is used in modern times to refer to a patient requesitng the act from a doctor (such as in Oregon), or an owner requesting a veterinarian to do it for a pet, it was used during the holocaust to describe the nazis' process of ridding the world of all people they decided weren't fit for life. In this use, euthanasia was definitely NOT "mercy" killings, nor was it painless. Homosexuals, the mentally disabled, and the physically impaired were the first to be exterminated this way, and it was also the beginning of the "Final SOlution to the Jewish Question."

In the Oregon case (and others like it), the debate is whether a doctor can legally end someone's life -- look up the hippocratic oath, and the idea "first, do no harm." Also, interesting ethical debates arise about whether someone's life is actually their own...

Euthanasia is killing someone at their request.

It is NOT the same as assisted suicide (AS), because in AS the person who is dying performs the final act of self-termination, using means provided by the other person.

Whereas in euthanasia, the other person performs the actual act that causes death.

EUTHANASIA is the process of painlessly a terminally ill person to die.Known also as assisted suicide or mercy killing, euthanasia is illegal for humans.....it is performed by lethal injection, using the same drugs as those on death row are executed.it is the intentional killing by act or omission of a dependent human being for his or her alleged benefit.

Euthanasia is when a person or animal is killed "mercifully" when they are sick and dying, and it is deemed that they are in so much agony and discomfort that death would be a better alternative.

Usually- it's when a doctor administers a lethal dose of a given drug that results in the death of his terminally ill patient- at the patient's request.

Mercy killing . You might look up Dr. Jack Kevorkian , who was imprisoned in Michigan for helping seriously ill men & women end their lives humanely . . He was eventually released due to serious illness .

One way to keep Social Security from imploding for possibly a few more months. Fewer recipients = decreased outlays.
