Because she's been around since forever.
Somehow, I don't think it's the girls that are collecting the Barbie dolls, but perverted old men collecting them just to undress her.

It is a toy that creates debate, love, hate, conversation, art, books, and movies, Your own question contributes to her fame. If none talked about it as much, the doll would not be so well known. There are other dolls that have been around for many years that gets little attention. We want to criticize or defend Barbie because and ignore the other ones. I find Barbie as a topic that most women have an opinion about that can break the ice of the first meeting when trying to get a conversation started. Ignorant responses about collectors being perverted old men shows a lack of knowledge of the subject. Your feeling about Barbie is based upon what your view. Others see the doll as it relates to them. I do not care for the Barbie dolls of the sixties. I prefer the later seventies to today with some exceptions. However, I do not wish that the sixties dolls were gone. It would be selfish of me to want to deny the joy of those that grew up loving those dolls.

Many years ago there was a newly wedded couple on their honey moon in France. The groom went to the store to pick up some goods. On his way he found a doll who was completely naked. As a joke he bought it for his wife. The wife's name was Barbie. This doll had pubic hair, nipples and every realistic feature that you would find on a naked women.
Barbie decide to make and sale her own doll but take off nipples, vagina's, and pubic hair. When they returned to America they like her idea. She became rich.
And that's the story on how barbie became popular.
Oh and if someone says you look like a barbie doll its because they think your beautiful.
Barbies were the first plastic doll made in America.

Well, she's popular because that's what took off. That's what sold, you know? Like why did anything become popular? It's impossible for you to be Barbie. If it makes you feel better, if you took Barbie's measurements and made them relative to a regular person, that person could not be alive, scientifically. The ratio doesn't fit.

Barbie is so popular because Mattel invested so much money in marketing her, and the media uses her "qualities" to sell other stuff. And because fashion companies and designers like skinny lighter-skinned blue-eyed blondes best to sell their products. I'm sure you don't look anything like barbie. You would have to have a 10-inch waist, a razor-sharp nose and feet that permanently stand on the toes with the heels in the air.
