Retalliation tactics? Would you just smile when you saw them, Flick them the bird, Scream at them, Invite them to dinner and cook badly, Or just ignore them? My fingers getting tired, I don't smile a whole lot, Don't care for screaming, And I'm not capable of cooking badly....So, Do I just ignore them? Or do exercises to make my finger stronger? (Sorry God)

I just ignore them, unless they are doing/plan on defacing my property, seriously harrassing me or causing REAL physical harm to me. I really don't see much use in sinking to some one else's level and retaliating, however if some one were seriously trying to cause me harm or try to put me in a dangerous situation I would contact the authorities. But if it's just basic gossip/rumors/someone talking behind your back ignore it and make them look like an idiot for all the trouble they're putting in to make you look bad.

If I find out that someone is gossiping about me behind my back, I'd probably straight up confront them and ask why?
Would make them feel very uncomfortable plus give u the satisfaction of doing so...no screaming, no cooking badly, no flicking the bird...

My in-laws are the biggest gossip hounds I've ever met, Ive tried everything you mentioned, but in the end, we moved away and have nothing to do with them. I wish people like that will realise that gossip ruins peoples reputations and Mud sticks, once the damage is out there there is no cleaning up the mess you can do by gossipping.
Gossipping should be punishable by death!!!!

i dont go anywhere near gossips. they drive me insane, as does drama. avoid them at all costs. when all else fails, mention your sudden outbreak of scabies after youve touched them and spend the next few minutes scratching. :) youre supa cooo, drop a line sometime.
