Because they instinctively desire the woman and can't help it. They then feel intimidated and vulnerable, which men don't like. Also they feel frustrated because they want her but are unlikely to ever have her (especially if they are not that attractive themselves). It's like a power the woman has over them WHETHER THEY ADMIT IT TO THEMSELVES OR NOT, and they HATE it.

its rare that someone is mean to another upon first meeting without provocation, but if they are, it can be many things. A good number of the time it rests in low self esteem. Try to walk away from these people keeping your good humor intact; do not give it pause, cause or energy and you will retain your good self.

Because I'm not like that, I'm afraid I havent got a good answer unless their just insecure morons who don't care about another's sensitivities...
Maybe they've been hurt before but that dosen't mean they should put all females in the same class...
