I live in North Dakota and I like it. ND has many reserve units, an affordable college system, a very good VA hospital and lots of access to the outdoors. $70,000 wil buy a home in every town or city in ND. Many small towns have very nice homes for considerably less than that!

I don't see Kansas on your list but we have an excellent VA hospital here in Topeka and you can buy a house for that. Our terrain is much like Missouri but lots prettier than any where I've been in Iowa. We have reserve unit, Washburn University w/one of the best law schools in the US, and several huge Federal lakes with hunting and fishing allowed on ground around them within a few minutes drive. We are the capital city of Kansas but much smaller than Kansas City or Wichita. Lawrence, home of the KU Jayhawks is only 30 miles away and is a great town, too. Do I sound like the welcome wagon lady? I've lived a lot of places but this is the best. A nice clean small city with everything you need at hand and some of the cleanest air in the US. You can cross the city at rush hour in ten minutes on a normal day. Check us out. Good Luck and God Bless

SE Colorado has all of those things, and you can buy a four bedroom house for less than $50,000 in most towns including La Junta, Rocky Ford, Las Animas and Lamar. Colleges include Otero Junior College in La Junta, Lamar Community College in Lamar, and Trinidad Junior College in Tridad. All three towns have hospitals. All offer incredible outdoor activities including some of the most islolated, beautiful and private hiking areas in the nation that include Indian Picto and pectographs that are still unvandalized, dinasour tracks, and some of the best fossil hunting on the planet. The largest herd of bighorn sheep in Colorado is in the area. THere are several reserve units in this area also. Check us out. We may be exactly what you're looking for.

South Carolina, you want some good weather too as you will not need winter and summer clothes, also it would not be so hard on your car, and it is cheaper to keep cool thatn warm up, and you can entertai yourslef just by sitting outside. I think too house prices will rise in N and S Carolina becasue of the proximity to the water and cheaper insurance and taxes than comparable Florida.
