by ear or with a tuner. if your asking this question the first thing i would do is by a chromatic tuner.

Just twist the tuning keys until you reach the desired pitch. There are many possible tunings on a guitar but EBGDAE (highest string to lowest) is the "standard" tuning. You should invest in a nice electric guitar tuner, but you can always use a free online tuner (like the one here: http://www.worldguitar.com/tuner.html ) or you could use a keyboard or tuning fork. Eventually you should try to be able to tune your guitar by ear. This takes practice but it will come in handy!

There are SOO many ways to tune a guitar. Here are a few examples of popular tunings. Try a few and play around with them, see what happens..

Standard Tuning- E, A, D, G, B, E

Drop D Tuning - D, A, D, G, B, E

Popular Open Tuning - D, A, D, G, A, D

Open G Tuning - D, G, D, G, B, D

Open C Tuning- C, G, C, G, B, E

The best way is to buy a tuner and use that. You can buy a basic one for under 20 bucks. Until then, here's a site with online midis to tide you over. just click the note you want to tune, and make sure your speakers are on.

umm...from the smallest string to the thickest string,
e,b,g,d,a,e
but u can tune it any way u like, that was just the normal tuning.
