No. Black flight rather than white flight is one of the reasons black neighborhoods are economically depressed. Also if successful blacks leave the neighborhood then the only examples of "success" left are those who make money through criminal enterprises

Of course they should if they lived in a ghetto or slum, the problem arises when they bring the ghetto to successful hard working neighborhoods, just because loud music at 4am was acceptable there doesn't mean it is here.

If you blend to your new surroundings there won't be any problems. Have some respect for your neighbors and they will for you too. Really isn't staying in a poor neighborhood when it is known you have money just asking to be robbed?

People move of all races change neighborhoods all the time, what good is being successfully if you don't enjoy the new way of life you can now afford?

Besides if they didn't TV shows like "The Jeffersons" never would have given us all the enetertainment. Also it just contributes to the self fulfilling prophecy that plagues black America.

Should they leave is a question each must answer individually, as there would be positive reasons to stay or to leave depending on the type of neighborhood it is. Do they have the right to leave? Absolutely! None of the major black thinkers I have ever heard of (Booker T Washington, Fredrick Douglas, W.E.B Dubois, Cornel West) has ever suggested that a successful Black person has a moral, legal or social obligation to continue to reside among his less-successful peers. Show the example yes, help them if they'll let you, yes. But if you as an African-American Man or woman through hard work and the Grace of God can give your family the same American Dream that your White peers are enjoying there is no reason at all not to. (And Yes I AM Black! and I Like it that way!).

I personally think they should stay. Only because that would give them the opportunity to be role models or even mentors to the people in their own neighborhood. They could have such and effect that they could help to help others to become successful. That goes for any race, not just black people. Why move out into the rich and famous, when you evidently had a descent upbringing that you succeeded, and you can help improve the average Joe neighborhood. Anyway, your friends would all be there, why leave them behind?

What kind of neighborhood do they live in? I don't think all black people live in the same kind of neighborhood. If you are talking about an area high in crime then I'd leave. For anybody, regardless of race, as they become more successful and make more money they usually buy a nicer home which would move them into a nicer neighborhood.

Depends on what type of neighborhood they live in. If they live in a poor neighborhood and they become successful, it is their choice if they want to leave or not. Most people regardless of race, when they become more successful and have more money they typically move to a better neighborhood.

Since when do all blacks live in the same type of neighborhood? But like others said I guess if you live in a dangerous neighborhood it would be smart for anyone to move out. But if you live in a decent neighborhood I really wouldn't see the point.

I think any African American that finds a good job should probably move out of the project. For one thing, you will make most your friends at work and you really don't want them coming over unless you can impress them with your success. Believe it or not it will be a huge weight off your chest when you move. You will be able to take pride in where you live and also take pride in your self. You get your self respect back, and that counts for a lot. Also, don't let your old friends over any more. When they see your plasma screen TV it will be gone the next day! You know how much weed a plasma screen TV will buy???

Depends on the neighborhood. Logically, if a person lives in a dangerous neighborhood, and they achieve the means to move to a safer one, they should do so. But, if the person lives in a decent neighborhood that is predominantly black, and decides to move to another neighborhood just because they are running from themselves and their community, this I don't agree with.

Ideally it would be great if they could stay and become an active participant in attracting business and prosperity to a downtrodden area (such as projects/ghetto).

However, if they have a family and wish to provide a safe environment for which their kids can grow up in, it is probably a better idea to move out of the neighbourhood. It's difficult enough for kids these days, living in fear everyday is something no kid should experience.
