They have won. With and without Roy they are national contenders. But are they better.

The team definitely didn't go off the rails after Roy left, but I don't think they are "better". Roy Williams was the winningest coach of all time during his years at Kansas (in terms of winning percentage, not championships). It's hard to do much better than winningiest, if you ask me. I'm just glad ol' Roy waited until returning to my Tarheels to start winning championships. When he wins it all this year (which he will), it will make 2 of the last 3 for him.

Kansas is the same without Roy, but Roy's better off without Kansas. He'd still be without a national championship if he had stayed there.

since you answered my question I'll jump in on this one.

As a UNC fan, and not crying foul on Dukes too high seeding because my team is seeded lower, I also can say a bit about Williams.

Roy wasn't the only reason Kansas was good, nor were the years he was at Kansas the only years Kansas had a good team. So can they be a good team, a better team since he left for UNC? Sure.

Just as UNC is still having good teams after Dean Smith retired........who'da thunk it! I remember Roy playing at UNC.......thank goodness he's a better coach than he was a player!

He didn't 'abandon' Kansas. He was born in North Carolina. Went to UNC. Played basketball for UNC. His wife went to UNC. His kids went to UNC. He was an assistant coach at UNC for 10 years. His kids live in North Carolina. ....Sounds like going home to me.

Yes, Self is creating players who have the option to lead when called upon. Roy was always able to develop one or two persons to lead the team. Self makes sure that anyone can lead when they are called upon.

I think any team is better off without someone who abandons them for another team. He didn't want to stick around, whatev. Self is doing a great job, coach of the year material...
