The dreams have a similar theme. I'm driving down a busy interstate, and I fall asleep at the wheel. I try very hard to wake up before causing a crash, or I'm dreaming about taking a nap on a couch when the house catches fire, and I struggle with waking up.Dreaming about not waking up in critical situations. I just wanted some more input .

It's subconscious panic induced by the natural paralyzation of "REM state".....Meaning : your brain paralyzes your body while dreaming, and when you become aware of this you feel panic.....

Now I'm not a shrink or anything like that but, I have read a few things on dreams. I have not had a dream that I have remembered for a long time. From what I have read dreaming about being asleep at the wheel is a unconscious way for your fear of missing something important or not being able to stop something. Sleeping on the couch during a fire is your subconscious showing great stress and a fear of losing everything and you can't control it. If these dreams are sporadic it just might be something that happened during the day that brought out your fears however, if they are a regular occurrence you might seek professional help. Nightmares and night terrors are a part of life but they may be able to be controlled a bit better than now.

I don't think it's imperative to awaken. In fact, it might be interesting to see what would happen if you tried to follow through with the whole dream just to see where it leads next. It just might give you a clue as to what all this is about. I'm guessing it's all anxiety of some sort.

I think that you're body is trying to warn you about something. It could not be so literal. You could be sick and not know it. Or something could be happening that you do not realize. Both dreams are focused on the fact of inattention, maybe you need to pay closer attention to what's going on in your life.
