the door hinge is the thing that holds the door to the wall

Seems everyone has this covered.... but there are heaps of different sorts... wide throw, butt hinges, piano hinges. You can spend hours in a hardware store making the right decision.

For example we use stainless steel 4" butt hinges (3 of them) on solid core doors to try and avoid the consequences fo teh hinge stretching, which I find happens with the cheaper ones, or when there are too few hinges for the door weight.

Obviously the correct choice of hinge depends on the application and it's an expert job to get it right. I am certain that carpenters proud of their work really hate to have to come back and fix the consequences of a bad choice of door hinge. For this reason, they ought to know best and you should blame the carpenter if the door sags in the frame.

(Sorry guys)

A door hinge simply means the metal bracket holding the door to the door jamb. It lets the door swing to open or close, thus it hinges the door.

A door hinge is the metal part on the door, and frame of the (actually between) door. It is what is used to open and close your door with ease. There should be two of them on each door/frame. One near the top, the other near the bottom.
