The Fellowship was formed at Rivendell (the elven place), and from there they tried to cross the mountains through the path of Caradhras but were forced to turn back. Then they travelled through the Mines of Moria and across the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. From there they went to the woods of Lothlorien (another elven place), and then down the Rauros river to Parth Galen (an old, abandoned sentry place built by men).

Hope that helps.

Mae Govannen,

Here's a quick geography of Middle Earth...

The Fellowship started at Rivendell also called Imladris and travelled to the land of Hollin where they tried to cross the great mountain Caradhras but were forced take another route through Moria and Gandalf does battle at the Bridge of Khazad-dum against a Balrog. After Gandalf's seeming end they make their way to Lothlorien and travel down the river Anduin until they reach the falls of Rauros at Parth Galen south west of Emyn Muil where Boromir is slain by Lurtz and the Uruk-Hai.

The Fellowship ends there as Sam and Frodo make to Mordor and Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli pursue the Uruk-Hai to Isengard through East then West Emnet and into Fangorn forest where they meet Gandalf the white.
