I am currently attending community college full-time, and I decided to major in Sociology as a stepping stone to Law School. Not knowing what kind of job I could get with it.

But, after graduation (May 2007) I would like to go back to work while attending a four year institution. I would like to use my degree, but I am not sure what kind of job I could get.

I hope something making at least $50k starting out. Education is expensive, and I would hate to not be making some of that money back.

Any knowledge in this area would be useful and taken into consideration--the more detailed the better!!!! Thanks!

$50k is a bit ambitious for an AS in sociology. It can be done - but you'll need to expand your search and find that one "nook job" that everyone hears about but never finds. That amount of money would be tough for a BA in sociology. Most social science fields don't start paying until you are at the "masters" level.

Break out of the mold and start something new. Start you own business. Use you education as a step - not a key. No one is going to beat down your door to hire you as an AS. Try a field and see if you like it. If yes, keep plugging away and climb that ladder. If not, try another. Keep going until you find something you like.

It takes time to find the perfect fit. Be patient.

GOOD LUCK! $50,000. WITH AN AS, NO WAY. GET YOUR FOUR YEAR DEGREE AND THEN YOU MAY BE ABLE TO GET AROUND THAT FOR A START RATE, BUT I DOUBT THAT WITHOUT SOME EXPERIENCE IN THE PARTICULAR FIELD. YOU COULD BE A SUB. TEACHER, OR WORK WITH THE COUNTY EXTENTION SERVICES. WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT? DECIDE THAT AND GET STARTED IN THAT FIELD NO MATTER WHAT THEY PAY. IF IT ULTIMATELY LAW, GO TO WORK WITH A LAW FIRM AS AN INTERN AND LEARN THE ROPES.
