Your battery light is coming on due to the lack of voltage from the alternator going to the battery is low.The alternator has gone bad and the low voltage is causing the vehicle to 'Bog' down during acceleration. You can verify this by having the vehicle running and disconnecting the negative(-) or ground cable .If the vehicle dies after disconnectingf the cable. The alternator is bad.Get replaced. If the vehicle stays running. It could be that the internal voltage regulator in the alternator is not producing enough electrical current. The vehicle is running off the battery and the alternator is not keeping the battery charged enough.

i would check out the alternator 1st.....with the truck running, unhook the + side of the battery and drive it, the alternator should put out enough juice to keep it running, if not, i would replace that 1st......if your check engine light is on, you might want to check that out too
