There are a lot of free programs online. www.mytypingtest.com is a good one. It will time you on your typing, and give you advice.

This is kinda like the sentence we were taught in high school typing, only I added more to help me. I typed this sentence (yeah, it's boring) 25 times a day, each time picturing where each letter was in my head. Now, I couldn't tell you where any of the keys were on the keyboard because they are just so automatic to me. Sometimes it helps to have a picture of the keys hung in front of you on the wall until you can picture the keys in your head and your fingers automatically know where they are.
"Did the quick, brown, fox jump eagerly over the wall?" Yes, he did: He jumped 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, times; @ and then I added stuff to help with numbers like 10 times @ 3 cents per jump is what % of... whatever.
But for starters I just kept typing the sentence over and over without the numbers. Hope it works for you.
ps. I"m a stenographer, in court, at about 225 wpm. I type at, depending on the content of the material, anywhere from 65 to 90+ wpm. Get me on my favorite typewriter, my old IBM, and I'm alot faster. Just seemed the keys were more comfortable and better suited/shaped to my fingers. Now if they could only make computer keyboards that comfortable!

Mavis Beacon teaches Typing is a software program which has been around for years and is semi-entertaining I guess. There are several free/shareware typing tutors available on the internet too - a Google search should find them. One I recall was KP Typing Tutor.

Once your learn the basic principles like the correct finger position on the keyboard, a fun way to practice is chatting with friends. And don't forget that the more you practice the better you get, it's like driving.

There are several programs that you can use to help you with this problem. The one that I have used and helped me type around 50wpm. MAVIS is probably one of the best. Well recommended.

There is a CD called Mavis Bacon teaches typing. By the way when it is done on a computer it is called "KEYBROADING"!
