If it takes me an hour and half one way to work and I move 20 minutes closer ( 40 minutes less a day).....How much will I save in gas for the month, year (roughly $3.05 a gallon here).

It's 41 miles to get to work.
I drive about 60 to 80 miles an hour ( although I spend about 10 minutes waiting to cross the bridge).
I live in the Bay Area CA.

depends, let's say you drive at an avg of 50 mph and you get x mpg in your car.

40 mins = .66 hrs

number of miles you will save per month, using 20 work days a month...

20*.666 = 13.33 hrs per month

miles = 50*13.33 = 666 miles (sign of the beast!!!)

gallons = 666 / x

let us say you get 25 mpg...

gallons = 666/25 = 26.6 gallons

savings = 26.6*$3.05 = $81.25

Therefore, you will save approx $81.25 per month. Time to upgrade your internet!! lol.

several assumptions are necessary so I will list the ones I use:

a) avg driving speed for commute = 60 mph
((conveniently = 1 mile/minute ))
b) avg gas-mileage = 20 mpg
c) 20 work days / month

=> 40 minutes/day => 40 miles/day => 2 gal/day => $6.10 /day => 20*(work days / month)$6.10/day = $122.00 / month

on those assumptions, 122 dollars / month savings

Not determinable with your info. You need to tell the distance from work from both places. Also, the approximate speed from your current abode. The result will be approximate because mpg for a car varies with car speed and travel conditions.

Everything else the same you save 20/90 = 22.22 %
