I have a 1972 evinrude, possibly a 18hp 2 cycle. If it has one, whare whould the oil drain plug be? Any additional info on anything about this motor would help.

Your motor needs 2 cycle oil mixed with the gas to run without burning up. You can probably go to an Evinrude Outboards site to learn the mixture of oil to gas. Like 16:1, 50:1 and so on.
As for oil in the unit, there is none in the engine itself, but there is gear oil in the lower unit. There should be a screw type plug below the prop and a fill plug above the prop on one side. To drain, remove both plugs. To fill, replace the lower plug and squeeze the gear oil (lower unit oil) into the top hole until it runs out, then replace the plug. All of that is done with the unit in an upright position.
If the motor hasn't been started in a long time, it would be best to remove the spark plug(s) and squirt some light oil into the cylinder with an oil can, (WD-40 will work if you will be running the engine soon) then pull the starter rope a few times to spread the oil thoughout the cylinder before replacing the plug(s).
Hope this info is what you're looking for.

Your Evinrude is a 2 stroke or 2 cylce whichever you prefer. There is no drain plug the engine is oiled through the gas/oil mixture, as the mixture passes through the intake some of the oil stays on the moving parts lubricating them. You have to mix the oil and gas together at a 50:1 ratio of 1 pint to 6 gallons of gas. Contrary to popular belief too much oil is just as bad as not enough oil. Buy a good quality 2-stroke oil, stay away from the Wal-Mart Tech 2000 it will cause more problems than its worth.

2 stroke evinrude engines don't take oil in the crankcase. you mix the oil with the gas & that's enough. strange but true.

yes all combustible engines need oil. no matter if its two stroke or four stroke (you know you have to use mixed gas as well don't you? about 40 to 1 better rich than lean)
