Andy Rooney said on 60 Minutes tonight that he believed the draft should be instituted & patriotism shown through serving during any war time including the Iraq War. He said it would give a more balanced military - some poor, some rich, some college educated, some college students & some working Americans Just like during past wars - most had drafts. Rooney was drafted himself.
I personally agree with my son, the Army Captain, good soldiers choose to serve their country - for the love of their country. Not because of law. I do think we need a tax increase to be ear marked for just the military - kind of like a school bond but a military bond. Unfortunately, I think it is illegal - maybe we should ration the gas everyone thinks we are fighting for & let them pay higher taxes for more consumption of gas. I may be on to something - how may of our "I believe is about gas" folks are driving gas guzzing SUVs & huge trucks? Extra payment for right to drive them?

Is that the walk & talk you were looking for? the sassy one!

No. The modern military is by far too technical to allow just anybody in nor should they have to deal with gangs, drug use, and hatred that would come with it. There's a reason that losses in Iraq have been unprecedentedly low.

There are troops available if we would get real. South Korea and Japan can take care of themselves - we don't need troops there. Most ground troops in Europe could be redeployed. There is no credible threat from Russia that the threat of war couldn't handle. Using troops in Latin America for the drug war is another waste. We have the ability to be engaged worldwide without having troops sitting uselessly all over the place.

We already sent troops in without a tax increase or a draft, so I do not believe we need either.

Sure, Bush is waiting for 08, then bagging the democratic party with it. That's all part of his strategery.

As long as Bush is on the throne, he won't increase taxes. He might cut them though. And he will never institute the draft, even when it's needed.

Our poor troops never get to come home anymore.

Exactly. If that's what it takes. Unfortunately the liberals are determined to make this another Vietnam, despite promising not to do so. The draft would really ruin our efforts. The tax increase I like. Make the average American take a stake in things. At least a gas tax.

Bringing returned the draft will smash the apathy of youthful u . s . a . of america. a minimum of, some human beings see that the draft might deliver the college pupils into the streets to protest. then you certainly won't ought to deliver the national shield to Iraq, they are able to shoot pupils in u . s . a . of america, returned. Why do no longer you volunteer and get all your friends to volunteer and all your pal's acquaintances to volunteer. you think of its a worth reason. every person who's for the conflict go and volunteer. i'm optimistic you ought to get 500,000 volunteers to win this conflict. i do no longer think of that's a conflict anymore. that's extra like police action. who're you going to police after? Shoot every person who disagrees alongside with your style of democracy? Shoot every person who disagrees with the puppet u . s . a . would have located as a Iraqi chief. i'm no longer a Iraqi so i don't be attentive to what they think of. this is been years for the reason that I certainly have amassed intelligence. you likely have confidence that patriots end scuds . . . you would be satisfied to spend trillions of greenbacks to very own one.

No. If the right-wing chickenhawks are so sure of themselves, let them go volunteer. But we should not force anyone to risk their life jsut to satisfy these armchair warriors' egos.

Well, we don't have enough money and we don't have enough people. So, unless Bush can come up with some other way of getting more money and more people....
