It is called Bindi and if a woman wears it, it means that she is married if it is accompanied by a red line in her hair parting. Otherwise religiously rich cultured people, we call them (Pandits) wear it, both men and women. In this case we call this red spot a Tilak, it is also worn after performing a pooja by both men and women, they think that they will be more able to concentrate on their work and God wearing it.

if the indian has the red spot, it means they're married.. but if they have any other color that is not red then it means they're single
