If you have poor self esteem, does that really prevent you from being loved/loving another person? I mean by a significant other, not someone you're related to (i.e. your siblings, your mom and dad, etc.)

There is alot to this!!! One does have to love themself before they can show or give love to another. I do believe in this, as all of my siblings and I grew up with poor self esteem and believe me it has really had affects on our lives. I have two older brothers and both of them have been married 5 times each. I have 2 older sisters and both of them have been married 4 times each. My two younger siblings, 1 male and 1 female are both in their 30's and have never been married. I didn't get married until I was 24 and I am still married to the same person. Believe me it does have meaning!!!!

I think it is a complete truth -- if someone doesn't think they are worthy of love to the point where they don't even love themself, then another person could say: well, if they can't even love themselves then how can they love me. The most attractive quality in a person is confidence, and those with low self esteem have no confidence what so ever. This can get in the way of developing healthy relationships with other people and keep a person isolated.

thats absolutely true.if you cant find value in your own self, your spouse is gonna pick up on that or you'll wind up with some jerk because you dont feel like you deserve any better.or you could wind up with a really good person and push them away because you cant understand why they love you so much because YOU dont love you.ive lived that life for a LONG time before i opened my eyes to how wonderful i am,so yes its VERY true

Yes. The reason being, if you are not happy within yourself, you'll expect someone to MAKE you happy. Love & Happiness goes hand in hand, therefore love yourself & make yourself happy!!! It isn't anyone's job but Yours!!
