pour hydrogen peroxide on it and let it fizzle out the blood then wash it in COLD water with detergent. You can get the peroxide at the grocery store or pharmacy.

Get some Clorox Oxyclean spray---you can find it in the laundry section where other spot removers are located. It's a white, plastic container. Spray the stain, let it sit for a day or whenever...then toss it into the wash. I've even had stains from a long time ago get taken out from that stuff. It doesn't stain any of my clothes, just takes out the organic stain. No girl should be without that stuff!

Oh, and Sheri D.'s stain came out because Oxyclean products are nothing more than hydrogen peroxide. So if you have some hydrogen peroxide on your shelf at home, try that first because hey, we need to save every penny we can these days for gasoline money.

Fresh Blood:
Cold water or Club Soda. Sponge stain immediately with cold water or club soda and dry with a soft absorbant terry towel. Repeat as necessary.

Dried Blood:

... in nursing school they tell students to use peroxide on the blood before washing. She reported it really works. I'd test a small section as it could also have a bleaching effect, but worth a try.

or

Mix one teaspoon of a mild ph balanced detergent (a mild non alkaline non bleaching detergent) with a cup of ice cold water
Blot
Mix one tablespoon of household ammonia with a half cup of ice cold water
Blot
Sponge with clean ice cold water
Blot
Note: Always test an inconspicuous area for colorfastness, etc. before treating the exposed area. Also note that certain stains are permanent .

My mom rubs stain with a potatoe but it works.

Hand wash the spot with soap as soon as possible before the stain sets.

When all else fail and you love your blanket, buy a patch and cover it up.

hydrogen peroxide, I found this out by mistake: I was wearing a white sweater the day my daughter cut her head open on a table, i held her close to me all the way to the hospital, I thought the sweater was ruined, so when i accidently spilled the peroxide on the counter i threw my sweater on it in a quick-non-thinking way, and low and behold it ate all the blood out of the sweater and it was white again.
