Once may friend and I sat in a car at the edge of a corn field in Amish country; it was the Fall. We just sat there listening to the sounds of the corn field. It is one of the most moving experiences I have ever had; like sitting under a tree in the forest: silence really is golden.

with the way that the world is now there is so much to see do and hear all the time. so when there is a moment of extended quiet one would come to think of it that way. so i say yes silence can be deafening

Sometimes. It gets to a point where the world starts ringing around you and you can hear the silence.

Oh my goodness, yes. Especially when you're at a club, and you're talking really loud to be heard over the music, when all of a sudden, the music stops and you are there shouting like a moron.
