It's one of the first wilderness parks in the United States.
It's best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.
Some activities available at Yosemite National Park include hiking, bicycling, tours, horseback riding, and scheduled activities.
It's not just a great Valley, but a shrine to human foresight, strength of granite, power of glaciers, the persistence of life, and the tranquility of the High Sierra.
Yosemite National Park covers nearly 1,200 square miles of mountainous terrain in the Sierra Nevada of California.

It's a place that was formed by a river and glaciers over millions of years. Eventually the indians came to live there. It was also inhabited by brown and black bears, squirrels, stellar jays, deer, and other rodents. Further up north at Tioga pass you will find the mountain goat.
The park has a place called glacier point where in the old days they had the fire fall. They would create a large bon fire and let it burn all day and in the evening the campers below would call out 'Let the fire fall!' a bulldozer would push it over the edge creating a beautiful light show. This was stopped over the years.
It has had several fires and floods that actually help the ecosystem and help get rid of old growth of trees making room for younger trees. There has also been rock slids that have killed people and injured others.
Hope that helps

Many black bears roam the Valley, where there are campers, because they eat poorly stored food.
Yosemite is the location of El Capitan, the biggest single piece of granite in the world.
Yosemite is home to several groves of giant sequoia trees, some so big you can drive through a tunnel that has been carved through their trunks.
