I have a1996 Monte Carlo. I had the same problem, about 4 years ago. I believe the problem had something to do with the fuse block by the shock tower on the drivers side. There was corrosion and it was shorting out something. It was not an expensive repair. I had a local repair shop fix the problem for under $75.

Check the starter, it's probably dead. Starters only last so long and if it's never been replaced that's probably the problem.

Check the starter solenoid,(sits on top of the starter) or you may just have a bum starter, good luck

Terminals! Terminals! Treminals!
99.99% of the time my friends.

Take them off the batt. neg first then pos. clean all of the corrosion that WILL be there. on all contact surfaces. put them back on pos then neg. start and go. happy motoring and wear your belt and drive safe! REMEMBER ALWAYS EVERY TIME WHEN YOU GET INTO A CAR THAT IN THE US, AUTO ACCIDENTS(COLLISIONS) ARE THE #1 KILLER!
