Middle Easterners do NOT resent the West; they resent the West's INTERFERENCE in their affairs. Which has been going on for centuries, BTW, starting with the Crusades.
Iraq is a great example of western interference; how do you think all those nice straight borders got carved out in the middle of a desert? Europe decided that throwing three disparate groups of people together to make a "nation" was just a dandy idea.
