When a person gets really sleepy, the cosmic spiritual realm portals open. This energy can be opened and experienced in the metaphysical, spiritual, and physical world. This cosmic area is an interacting period of time. Some instances some may experience a loud popping sound, a door slam, a far-away conversation (which is highly unusual) but more than likely one would experience brief samples of sound because the speed in which the alignment occurred was precisely at that moment. Upon examination of your situation, in particular, this could have been a metaphysical experience whereas the past spirits or entities that existed in your ancestry and are in fact still present in your DNA has possibly communed a long time attempt for the opportunity of this alignment to acquire communication amongst whom seem to be one with it, which is you, and in fact may have had similar voice in life to your father and character; if not, a spirit your father left behind and is not aware of it.

This has happened to me as well. I think it has to do with being asleep or nearly asleep for a second and then waking up to hear a rush of nerve information from the ear and the ear-subconcious mind connection playing a trick on us. After all, what could make more of an impression on us then hearing a parent yell our name. The real sound could be just about anything, but we imagine it as mentioned because waking up to a strange noise that can't be distinguished yet
may not engage a needed "fight or flight" response. So our brain makes us hear it as something urgent that will automatically push our buttons (specifically, the ones it has marked "emergency").

A similar thing has happen to me a few times. It is freaky but, like the one person said, you were entering in to a dream state & thought you heard you're dad. It does seem so real but, it was just a dream. No worries. Nighty night.

don't be scared. it probably just means that you and your dad were thinking about each other at the same time, and the fact that he's away from you made it stronger. i have very strong psychic bonds with my children and it's almost never bad news. BUT,, if it is; then you need to cherish that last moment with him.
