The sun and the surface interaction (ground, sea). The sun is the driving mechanism for the earths weather. The surface allows for the transfer of energy (the conversion of solar radiation into heat). Heat is what drives the winds and moisture distribution around the earth.

Climate doesn't change very seriously. The Earth, for about a thousand years now, has been warming and cooling in trends. Right now, it is warmer than usual, but if you're old enough, you'll remember how 20 years ago, Time magazine was warning the world of global COOLING. Yeah, another ice age. In about 10 years, it will be a bit colder again.
Your question is also poorly worded. Carbon dioxide is not very strong at retaining heat, however, in the concentrations it is found, it is quite significant. Also, CFC's (chlorofluorocarbons) have a very strong effect but are next to nonexistant in the atmosphere.
