My computer is infected with Win32:Small-EJL [Trj] Trojan Horse. AVAST, my anti-virus, keeps finding it and asking if I wanted to delete it. As soon as I hit the delete button, another warning pops up. Its endless and very rapid! I can't get anything done unless I turn off Avast! I turned the internet off and scaned the computer, and it was okay which makes me wonder if this is a virus or an AVAST problem. If its a virus, and it just keeps coming back the instant I delete it, is there something else I can do? Or, if its AVAST, how do I shut off the constant warnings?

As with most questions you got a few good answers and a LOT of bad ones. Avast is the BEST free antivirus. The guy who said free programs are no good has no idea what he's talking about. He recommended McAfee or Norton, the two WORST antivirus softwares.

The first response was a good one. Disable system restore. Viruses and trojans love to hide there. They also hide in other protected folders on your computer so Avast can't remove them. To get past this you need to run a boot scan. It is the single greatest feature of Avast Antivirus. Here's how you do it:

1. Right click the Avast icon in your system tray.
2. Click "Start Avast antivirus
3. Click the arrow in the top left corner
4. Click "Schedule boot time scan"
5. Make sure you tell it to check all archived files.
6. Restart your computer and let Avast have at it.
7. If this doesn't fix your problem you could also try AVG from www.grisoft.com or try the online scanner at Trend-Micro's website.

Before losing trust in AVAST, try this. First, right click on "My Computer", click on "Properties", and then on the "System Restore" tab. Put a check mark in the box to turn off System Restore. Now exit from there and reboot the computer into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key as the pc starts up. Once there, run your AVAST program for a complete scan. Hopefully AVAST will then find the virus, and allow you to delete it. Once that's done, reboot the pc and run another AVAST scan. If all shows clear, go back to System Restore and uncheck the box you previously checked. Hope this helps.

Download and Update Ewido (now called the AVG Antispyware). Do not run:

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

TEMPORARILY SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.

3. On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click "Show hidden files and folders", and clear(uncheck) the "Hide protected operating system files" check box.

IMPORTANT: Files are hidden by Windows for a very good reason. It is not wise to experiment with these files. Unfortunately, to successfully remove modern spyware we must turn this protection off temporarily. Please turn the protection back on when you have finished cleaning your system.

EMPTY INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER CACHE:

1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options.

2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. Select the Delete all offline content check box in the confirmation dialogue box that appears, click OK. Click OK again.

RESTART IN SAFE MODE:

To do this you need to hold down or repeatedly tap the F8 key while the computer is booting (when the computer is displaying a black screen with white text). When the boot menu appears, use your keyboard arrows to select "Safe Mode."

Safe Mode can look quite ugly. The color may look bad, and all of your desktop icons will be very large. This is normal.

START THE SCAN WITH YOUR PROGRAM(S).

When the scan and removal are completed REBOOT COMPUTER. This will restart you in normal mode.

RESET HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.

The RESTORE POINTS may be infected with the Malware and cannot be used. Delete the old one(s) and make a new one.

CLEAR OLD RESTORE POINT(S). HERE'S HOW:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Performance and Maintenance, click System, and then click on the System Restore tab.

3. Select the Turn Off System Restore check box, click Apply, then restart your computer.

4. Return to the System Restore Tab and turn System Restore back on.

TO SET A NEW RESTORE POINT:

1. Click the Start button.

2. Point to Programs, then navigate to Accessories, then System Tools, then click System Restore.

3. Choose Create a restore point, and then click Next.

4. In the Restore point description box, type a name for your restore point, and then click Next.

5. Click OK.

NOTE: If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and are unable to access the Internet after removing Malware, there is a command that may fix the problem. It works by resetting the winsock catalogue. Click on Start, then Run and type CMD in the box. Click OK. Type "netsh winsock reset" (no quotes)into the DOS window that appears.

I have recently found out that most anti-viruses, with the exception of AVG (I use AOL Active Virus Shield), are not good trojan removers. So, I have started using a2 Free, which is specifically an anti-trojan software. The free version comes with only on-demand scanning, so you will have to scan your computer once every 10-15 days to make sure that it is not infected.

you genuinely do no longer want an anti virus software to eliminate it. that is particularly user-friendly. first, do you already know what software brought about it? i've got been given a trojan called "antivirus2009.exe" and that i rewmoved it using activity supervisor. first, press ctrl+alt+del and click "tactics". now locate the record that brought about the virus, and end the technique. it disables it, so which you would be able to delete this technique that brought about it

AVAST is the problem. Of course you have a Trojan horse on your computer, but since AVAST is FREE, it won't delete certain threats, especially the MOST dan gerous threats. Why? Because it is FREE... There is a guy who goes around here by the name " Dell Tech" he tells you all about the danger of FREE Anti Virus softwares...

Just purchase Norton or McAfee and get rid of it... Nothing FREE is good.

Go to Control Panel>System>Sysem Restore>And uncheck "turn on system restore".
The virus keeps coming back from your restore points so you have to turn them off.
