It can be done easily by pluggin in the record player or tape player to the line in on your sound card and recording directly from that.
If you want a BETTER idea, I would just fire up bittorrent or limewire or something and download the MP3 version of the songs you have on tape and record. If you actually OWN the rights to a song (ie you bought the album or tape) theres no legal issue with downloading the song for free as you've already paid the license costs of ownership of that song. The only thing you CAN'T do is turn around and leave the songs you download to be shared with others. THAT can get you in trouble. But so long as you actually own the album, theres nothing illegal about downloading the MP3 version of that song.

No, I don't think WMP Can record from inputs, but other programs can. My favorite is Audacity. It is Freeware. Like someone else suggested, connect an audio cable from your tape or record player and the other end to the red (Microphone) or blue (Line In) headphone jack on your computer. Change your audio settings as needed to get a sound and (recording) away you go!

http://www.wmrecorder.com/user_guide.htm You can record sources like that by getting a RCA-> phono adapter cord, and plugging in the phono plug into the audio in port of your sound card/computer. Just put the needle on the record and hit record.
