XBOX 360 core doesn't have a hard drive so all of your games must be saved to a memory card that you have to buy extra. XBOX 360 pro comes with a hard drive already installed and has 12 GB which is plenty for the average gamer.

If I were you I would go with the XBOX 360 pro because it makes life much easier.

Core 360 Systems do not have hard drives and thus cannot really use Live (more on this later) unless you buy a memory unit which could still only be used effectively for game saves.

Premium 360 Systems (What you referred to as Pro systems) has a 20gb hard drive, but about 12gb of it is useable (you can delete some things it come preloaded with as well). I would suggest you get this model as then you can use Live's free service.

Xbox live has 2 levels as well. Xbox Live silver is free for anyoen to use. You can use it to get game demos and xbox live arcade demos or full games. In order to unlock full arcade games you'd have to buy microsoft points, but you can use those on live silver.

Xbox live gold costs $60 a year and uses the same system as the silver service. The only difference (and the reason why people buy it) is because it's the only way to play with others online. There are lots of players on live so if you want to play online with others you'd need gold service and the premium 360.

Hope that helps!

Difference between the pro and core is 100 bucks. Premium has 20 gb hard drive, while core has nothing. Premium comes with a wireless controller, while core comes with wired controller. Premium has component-composite cables, while core has composite cables. Premium has the chrome disk tray, while core has the regular disk tray. Premium comes in a white box, while core comes in a green box.

Whether or not you need XBL depends on whether or not you want to play other players online. If you want to play with other people online, then you need XBL. It's 50 bucks a year if you pay for the entire year at once. Otherwise it's anywhere from 8 bucks for 1 month to 14 bucks for 3 months.

Get the premium because all the stuff that you get more than makes up for the 100 buck increased price tag. Just the hard drive is 100 bucks, so add in the wireless controller and component cables, you're talking about another 30 to 40 bucks.
