its a learned trait, a child finding a bug on his own will not fear it, but the reaction by the mother or father dictates the proper reaction to the child.

Probably has something to do with the fact that people can become sick from bugs; malaria, allergic reactions, lyme disease, west nile, or from the filth some carry (like flies).

It is most likely instinct.

Also, early man may have associated bugs with death, in that a decomposing body (human OR animal) is ingested by bugs.

Frequently, bugs are around decomposing animals,
so they are more likely to carry diseases than other
animals.

There are also a small number that are toxic to humans
all by themselves - and unless you can tell the difference,
arguably you're better off being scared of 'em all.

because lots of bugs sting or bite
because lot of bugs like blood
anybodies blood
and some bugs can make you very ill or are very painfull
like woodticks
horse flies or mosquitos

Because society has taught them that it is cute or funny to be afraid of them. Thats why girls shriek when they see a bug. To get attention.

Because modern culture has almost always negative "myth's" or scarry stories, so we learn to be scared!

probably because their different when you see something different the emotion most people put out is fear so you try to kill it or make it suffer but your the one getting stung or bit.

because they're strange looking, usually tiny creepy crawly things, i guess we're freaked out by the fact that they're so tiny, we wouldn't notice their presence immediately, making us more vulnerable to them.
