i mean dogs use theirs but the only time i see my ferret move her tell is when she go to the bathroom.

its an issue of balance, i dont know much about ferrets but if they climb any they use the tails then, when they run it helps them make sharp turns, etc. watch a video clip of a cheetah chasing somehting and you can see the tail moving wildly especially during turns, we may not notice it on our house cats and ferrets as much since they are not moving as fast as cheetahs (even though it may seem like it sometimes)

Actually having tails...
*protects their private parts
* and they have a scent gland in it that wards off danger and gives other ferrets their scent
* and helps them balance out when they climb and possibly swim, it makes them more swift and agile for catching "prey"

lol...as with most animals their tails are used for balance.
