Okay. To make it easier, let's say that the girl who hints that she likes you is called "Lady Lover" and the friend who told the girl that you DON't like her is called "Lady Not-Lover". Okay? Okay. (Keep reading)
Even though Lady Lover may think that you now do not like her, she'll keep trying. Girls don't give up; they'll always try to flirt, or hint...when it comes to boys, they just don't. Give. Up. Got it?
Okay, so far so good. Now....HOW OLD ARE YOU, 5?! Ask the gal out! She's going to get impatient if she's been dropping hints, and may move on to some other crush, if she's not already impatient.

Well, I look for common intrests and related history--even similarities in family, values, and beliefs.
You need to be true to yourself. This also means being up front with your friends. I would tell your friend, who likes this female, that you have changed your mind---and that you have started to like her, too. If your friend is taken aback by this...especially if he has started active pursuit, it might be in the best interests of everyone involved to take a back seat and look for someone else--while keeping them both as "friends."
I have no idea if she "likes" you or not. I don't really know anything about you or her. After getting a green light from the friend that you weren't originally up front with, I would ask her, directly. Seriously. Life is too short to beat around the bush--and to worry about rejection. If she doesn't...bonus! If she rejects you, don't take it hard...she probably likes you as a "friend"..if this is the case. The bright side, we always need friends.

Tough situation. You are going to lose your friend over a girl hmm. Not good. And this is coming from a girl.
It would be a different story if you didnt flat out tell your friend you didnt like her. Would you want him to go after someone you said you liked probably not. Make the role reverse in your head. What would your friend do if the roles were reverse? This what should help you make the decision. Good luck. Be careful.

How on earth would we know if she likes you, hun?
I look for soemone who can be himself...what does that look like? A guy who is calm, self-assured, casual, but not indifferent (not TOO indifferent). Don't come on heavy and ask her straight out...do something sweet and spontaneous like pick a random flower for her while walking with her, or if u can stand the cheese factor, making her a cd of good songs (not overtly love songs, play it sorta cool) that you guys like. remember her birthday, and if its not anytime soon, refer to it casually,say if you see diamonds and she's an April gal, say "Oh I think those are your birthstones. Do you like diamonds?" I'll include a link to birthstone info below. About your close friend who likes her-if you'd like to keep his friendship, let him know your intersted, or it will eventually cause bad feelings.

For me, a guy who make me laugh, and he knows how to be honest with me. And he shouldn't curse. And maybe your friend does like you. If you say that she " sometimes hints".

the problem is girls have a long list when it comes to what they like in a guy many of which are just incredulous and impossible.
bottomline is, girls go with their instincts and think with their hearts. as long as you treat them special but still stay true to yourself, no pampering coz girls will just take advantage of it besides you might not be able to sustain it. girls want to be treated with respect.
as to this close friend of yours, just talk to her and gradually show her how you feel then eventually you'll be able to tell your true intentions. a male friend once told me that as long as the girl still gives time to talk to you, that means she's still interested.

Just go tell her that you like her.
Don't ask women what women want, they are full of BS. They all say they want a guy who is kind, considerate, loving, etc. But then look at the types of guys they actually go for.
