As has already been stated:
"Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely" -Lord Acton

But it's also been said that "Power does not corrupt men; fools, however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power." - George Bernard Shaw
Or
"Power corrupts the few, while weakness corrupts the many." - Eric Hoffer

And as many have demonstrated, "Public office...is the last refuge of the incompetent." Boies Penrose, Pennsylvania Senator

Corruption could likely be considerably lessened by making this a general requirement:
"No man should be in politics unless he would honestly rather not be there" - Henry Adams

"If ever this free people - if this Government itself is ever utterly demoralized, it will come from this human wriggle and struggle for office - a way to live without work; from which nature I am not free myself" Abraham Lincoln

People in every field tend to get corrupt easily and they do get corrupt. There are politicians who cannot be blamed even a single time for corruption. I believe its individualistic. In every field there is corruption. Politicians, when are corrupt, they end up eating our own money, the money of the mass, the money of the citizens, thus it gets noticed by our eyes because it pinches us. The other corrupt people have a nice slice of bread and they go un noticed by us probably because its none of our business.

I don't know much about India, but in the USA the politicians have to go beg for money to get elected. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you give a guy some money and he comes back for some more money in 2 years, that you might be able to trade some money for a favor or two.
A politician's first job is to get elected. Job two is to get RE-ELECTED! About the only solution to this problem is term limits.
A humorist once said that we should have two elections. One to elect the guy to office and then another election at the end of his term to see whether he lives or dies. Good idea.

Only politicians are not corrupt. Such news can be from corrupt officers, corrupt shop keepers, corrupt auto walahs etc.
Circumstances makes a man corrupt.
I am simple and not corrupt. If my family demand more and more every day, I may become corrupt. I am forced to become corrupt by others. We all sail in same boat.

There are probably a lot of reasons, but the main reason is that they have the power, therefore, everyone is trying to corrupt them. It's easy for me to say that I would never take a bribe. Of course, no one has ever offered me one. In reality, if some constituent wanted a favor and was holding a suitcase with 100 grand in it, who knows what I'd do. And of course, if you do it once, you'll do it again. Kind of like cheating on your wife...

For this we the people are also equally responsible. They do not beg corruptions from other planets. Those are we who give them the same and the takers are always ready when someone is ready to give. Only revolution in this direction can make the difference.
