Rodents...sounds like you have a mice problem! Termites are not loud at all, and you only know of their existence, when you fall through the floor. If you prefer to try to get rid of them yourself, try putting moth balls along all the corners in your home. Also, if you can, grind up moth balls into a powder, and place the powder along the baseboards. Mice have relatively poor vision, so they are often guided by the baseboards.
Further, make sure you don't have any pet food laying around. Keep any and all pet food in a tightly sealed rubbermaid container, and if you can, transfer food into bowls over the sink.

Good luck!!!

If your termites scratch and growl just move. I have the same problem with the scratching. Come to find out a squirrel was getting into my chimney and then somehow into the walls. I just crank up the heat for a min or two and I guess he runs out. I'm always looking at my vents waiting to see eyes lookin back at me though. Ewww

No, not termites man. If you hear scratching in the quietness and growling when you tap the wall or raise your voice (aggitate the critter), maybe a gopher or opossum? Opossum is my best guess. ...
