Why are people upset about federal laws being broken?
Are you serious? Or, do you believe that the ends justify the means, and it's OK to break the laws or ignore constitutional requirements as long as you mean well?
"Meaning well" is not a valid defense in a court of law. Breaking the law is breaking the law. And the fact that so many people seem to think that's acceptable is tragic.
I'm sorry that you consider the Constitution to be "crap", and that you hold so little respect for the Founders of this country that you're willing to betray and discard everything they fought for.
Remember the oath that all US military officers swear -- to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The entire purpose of the phrase "or domestic" is exactly for what happening here -- abuse of power by our elected officials, and betrayal of the Constitution itself.
How anyone can claim to approve of that, and still consider themselves to be an American, is beyond me.

Well, I think it's going too far for Gonzales to resign, but I can understand why they're upset about this FBI thing and it's abuse of the Patriot Act. (See, libs! I DO agree with you sometimes!) They've been hollering about this possibility for a while now--and then it's happened. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing to hide and I don't really care if they look into my records, but they aren't supposed to do it even under the Patriot Act. It's an abuse of power and it makes the President look bad. I agree that there is no freedom without safety but these violations weren't necessary.

ok, so if i feel that YOU are making things unsafe i should have the right to look through all your personal info? why dont we take it one step further, i'll toss you into Gitmo, or Abu Ghraib prison, and hold you there without the right to have a trial. hell, why not just execute anyone who's given us a reason to think they're unstable.... YOU sure seem upset for no reason.... maybe YOU'RE UNSTABLE!!! WE BETTER LOCK YOU UP AND EXECUTE YOU!!
here's the deal, this place isnt the USSR, we're all allowed basic freedoms, its the whole idea of the USA in the first place. Saddam Hussein used to just do whatever he wanted to whomever he wanted, even if he didnt have any proof that they were dangerous, so you're pretty much saying that our government should be more like him.
now, i might not like what you do behind closed doors, and i might think that your political or personal views are complete garbage, but you still have the right to those views, and the right to keep them private. others should only be allowed to pry once you're PROVEN to be a danger to yourself, or someone else. if the government is just allowed to do whatever it wants then we're no different than Hussein, or Hitler, or some other horrible totalitarian dictator.
i dont want the government's solution to keeping me safe to be removing all of my personal rights.
i have to laugh at the "you didnt put the KGB on that list.... and you're probably members....."
so.... the kgb is BAD when they lock people up and spy on them with no reason, but if OUR GOVERNMENT does the same its ok, and we shouldnt complain about it. and nobody here said they SUPPORT the KGB, which wouldnt even make sense since the kgb has NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR GOVERNMENT.
that'd be like me complaining about the high taxes in Canada. well...... seeing as i dont live there, i really cant complain much about it. lets focus ON REAL LIFE ISSUES AMERICANS HAVE. thats kinda the idea of this question in the first place, isnt it?

Yeah it's okay for the FBI to investigate people who aren't suspected of terrorism or any other crime. Just so long as they are liberals. But you let them suggest that firearms should be registered and you cry and whine like little girls.
The truth is that right wingers are usually investigated more thoroughly by the DOJ because they are the ones that are apt to go off and kill people.
"constitution crap". Wow. You sound like you really love America.

So basically, what you're saying is you're for the FBI going through your private affairs (meaning, they know what you're looking at on your computer, who you make phone calls to, what books you check out from your library, etc.) so long as it falls under the category of "fighting this war on terror". [Alberto] Gonzales needs to resign because he knowingly committed a crime and he allowed those under him to do so, illegally. It's not about having anything to hide, it's about respecting our rights to privacy as American citizens.

Hell yeah! They should break any laws and violate the Constitution whenever they want! In fact, why don't we just dispense with the laws and regulations for all government agencies and just initiate marshall law and anarchy?
I hope some jack-booted government agents will break down your door and shoot you without cause!

Because they believe in the rule of law as enshrined in our democracy which traces its roots back several hundred years.
"People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both."
If you don't like the Constitution, go to another country or work to get it amended.
