My 1-2nd gear shift is firm but I get a long slippage going into 3rd that really eats power. If I press harder on the gas it sometimes gets worse then will jerk & cause my rpms to bounce around. does anyone else tranny does this or is it something ALL 200r4's do?

The 200r4 is only good for scrap, they had a lot of failures. I believe Chevrolet had a silent recall on them. a friend had his rebuilt and Chevrolet picked up 90% of the bill.

A 200R4 ( 200 turbo hydramatic R == Rear wheel drive, 4 === four speed ) isn't the greatest transmission Hydramatic ever built by no means. When a transmission slips it is a pressure loss condition ( seal etc. ) and you need it overhauled and no that is not a normal 200R4 operating condition.

Do you mean 700-R4, regardless if its 200-4R or 700 the 3rd gear clutch plates are probably burnt and will soon go completely out. There are a lot of improvements that can be made to these transmissions when they are rebuilt to beef up the shift firmness and make them last.

yes, i had a 200R4 and it was horrible. mine didn't slip, it would get stuck in torque converter lockup mode, and the car would lug like crazy. and when you stopped, the engine would be working against the brakes, until the engine died. screw the 200r4! nothing beats a TH350 or TH400 trans. my experience with the 700r4 trans. has been good, too.

i own a repair shop, and no not all of them slip, about the only time they do slip is when there is something bad wrong with it,from what you have said about it,id say its going out, when they get that bad, about the only thing you can do is take it out and build it, or get another one, every time you mash on the gas ,and it slipping like that its making it that harder to rebuild,it really is hard on them, but your going to need it rebuilt, because its just about gone, good luck,i hope this helps.

if you mean 700-R4, id say its a thing with them. the R4 can never live up to what the 350 and 400 turbos can. in my opinion the R4's are junk
