If the paper is short, you might want to focus on one poem and explore it in-depth. Or, you might want to at least narrow it down to a few selections that especially highlight your thesis, so you can show evidence from them.
Also, an easier topic might be the theme of death in her work. If you wanted to tie it in to her life, you might mention her constant loss of people close to her. You might even say that she often "kills" the perfect rhymes in her work-- choosing off-rhymes instead, for a negative feel.
I guess the best advice is to be specific and site evidence for whatever you argue. Good luck.

a million. From Shmoop Poetry So, in case you’ve heard approximately Emily Dickinson, you’ve in all probability heard that she lived sort of a bizarre existence. She’s standard for no longer leaving her abode plenty over the 50+ years of her existence. She took a visit or 2, went to varsity quickly, yet regularly she stayed interior her abode and wrote letters and poems.

A common theme in her poems is a very negative view on society "I heard a fly buzz when I died" is one of my favorite Dickinson poems, and it as many other poems of hers critiques the tendency of society to replace necessary human emotion with duty and tediousness. This is relative to her reclusive nature as a person, having lived locked up in her room most of her life, she sees society as waisting away basically doing nothing.

How about the fact that she wrote so many stories referencing death, dying, and lonliness. I would like to write a paper about how her life effected the type of works she produces. It is alos interesting to delve into the fact that none of her work was printed until she dies.
