upon what do you base your views of morality?
how do you define right and wrong?

e.g. not too long ago, homosexuality was thought to be wrong/deviant. now there is a growing trend toward accepting it as a valid alternate lifestyle.

what about who could view pornography? genetic research? a whole host of other things ...

I think that this is actually a very interesting question. Unfortunately I have not much time at all at the moment.
I try to define right and wrong in looking on the effects my deeds have on others or the environment and I try to make sure nobody gets harmed through that.

For example pornography is a thing I find wrong. As many people get harmed through that as things get just out of proportion.
So genetic research. We know that genetically modified food is not healthy, so it has a non beneficial effect on bodies. So it is wrong to do that.
Homosexuality is a totally different chapter. Homosexuals are attracted to the same sex and if they do not harm others this is as such nothing wrong. Still many homosexuals might have personal problems but also heterosexuals have that and this is part of the fact that we humans are not perfect but in development. So development is right and helps us and does not harm anybody.
Whereas some things really harm others and this things I would define as wrong.
Have to go now. But strange that not more people answer this very interesting question of yours.
All the best.

In the past much was determined by religious principles. Today the trend seems to be going toward what the majority consensus approves.

Absolutes are difficult to define. Overall the most universal rule might be if the act does not cause harm to others it can be deemed acceptable. (or if it casuses the least harm of several bad alternates)

Oh the many shades of grey.

Being tolerant to someone who is wrong does not make his deeds right.
The only true judge of what is good or wrong is yourself. As long as you're true to yourself you will make good judgements.
