I asked this question before, but did not get much of a response, so I thought I would try again. I have a BA in Education, but I am very interested in the travel and tourism industry. Any information would be helpful to me such as pros/cons, training needed, salary ranges, etc. Thanks in advance!

I personally think it'd be a great, exciting field to get into, but it's probably pretty competative right now, since people can so easily book their own trips through the internet. You might want to look into corporate travel agent. They plan to business trips for execs.

I found this info on careerexplorer.net
Travel & Tourism
Salary Range: $13,020 — $53,410
Education Level (minimum): High school or equivalent
Growth Outlook (2002 – 2012): 10 – 20%

There is a lot of traveling competition throughout the internet and that is why being a travel agent isn't like it use to. There are also a lot home based travel business up and running. I know of one that is about to explode. I currently joined and from what i know its very cheap and the marketing tools are impressive. Check it out for yourself. I was skeptic at first, but man everything is simple to use and makes soo much sense. I learned more about e-commerce business through this program than school. I have a B.A. in business.

Bricks-and-mortar travel agencies are having a rough time, so I would encourage you to research carefully if you're considering that option.

But, the travel industry is exploding, and will continue to do so for the next 20 or so years as the baby boomers retire and travel. So, there's plenty of room to have a satisfying career in the travel industry.

An enormous amount of travel is now being booked online with 'self-serve' booking sites like Orbitz. If you're interested in being a travel agent, consider having your own travel booking site. Our company can provide you with a competitively-priced booking engine (powered by Travelocity). You'll earn very generous commissions on travel booked at your site.

Encourage everyone you encounter to book their travel with you and let corporate handle all of the arrangements. If you'd like to provide personal service, complete our course and become a certified travel agent, get access to the insider deals and build your own independent home travel agency.

We see travel agents making big annual incomes who come to us from bricks-and-mortar travel agencies. They are tired of having their commissions cut and appreciate the independence our business gives them. We also see people who are just breaking into the industry make good incomes because of the excellent training we provide.

You can also add travel agents to your business and build passive and residual income to cover those times when you'd like to take time off and . . . travel! I'm sure you'll appreciate the ridiculously low prices you can get on 'travel pro insider' deals and the tax savings associated with being in the travel industry.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. You'll find my email address on that site.

Good luck! I hope you find just what you're looking for.

We found the perfect business for us because it's all about travel. My husband is now a Referring Travel Agent after taking an online tutorial and exam. We are really enjoying the added perks that come with being a travel agent. The community guidelines do not allow me to explain here, but feel free to contact me.
