where would I find a good, legitmate site to do this. I'd prefer to just pay for the films, rather than pay a subscription fee.

There are loads of legit sites where you can download movies - virtually every popup is about it I -Tunes, any of the tv channel web sites, Yahoo movies, E-Bay, Virgin, HMV, even Tesco. however, you are going to need a hell of a big HDD to keep them in and even more if you decide to go hi-def.

Since YouTube hit it big, streaming movies and music have gone positively bananas. But such online media has a major flaw: You can't download it to your desktop and save it forever. However, here's how you can download streamed-media offerings of various types.

Record flash-based video (like YouTube and Google Video files) with KeepVid.com (http://keepvid.com/). Just enter the video's URL, and KeepVid converts it into an FLV file you can download. To play the file, use software such as VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/). Better yet, convert the video to an .avi, .mov, or .mp4 file by visiting the FLV Online Converter (http://vixy.net/). These sites and programs are free.
