O.k I do track at my school, and I am a thrower. I also play football. So to get into better shape im planning on running a mile after track practice everyday for the first week, and then every week after that, im gonna add a quarter of a mile to that, do you think this will be a good plan?

You can't just worry about what your physical activity is (to get in shape), you have to watch what you are eating too. If you drink Homo Milk (homogonized) drink 2%, if you drink 1% drink skim. Eliminate half the jiuce you are drinking. If it comes in a light/lite/diete option, then take it over the regular. Also watch when you are eating these things (i.e. don't eat them right before bed). You can start to incorporate this into your exercise too. You should eat something containg carbs, protien and water (liquid in general) roughly 15-20 minutes after exercising, that way it gets absorbed and used properly. As for actually exercising, don't worry about the distance, start out with 7 km's or some distance that you could comfortably run everyday, then increase the speed at which you run everyweek.

Another common misconception about getting in shape is how you work out. Most joe blows will go to the gym and do strength training only and do everything wrong, they will work with high wieght loads and then tear a muscle or something. You should start out with some basic cardio (running, treadmil.. ellipticalls are ok, but try an avoid them, they don't use your natural body motion). Another important thing to remember is to do a kinetic warm up (leg swings etc..), don't strech before you work out, loosen... strech after you work out. But as your cardiovascular system improves, you can start working on strength and then combing the two.
