Finding male friends is easier than finding female friends because they tend to take their husband's last name when they get married.
You can try putting their name in quotes in the Yahoo search box on the Yahoo home page, ex: "mary smith". This brings up only websites where these two names appear next to each other. Then go to the sites and see if the have any info, like pictures, etc.
Next, try Yahoo People Search. Just fill out the information you know, then click on search.
You can try various Alumni websites too. People often register there just so their old friends can find them.

Try Myspace, everyone has a Myspace!! Yahoo People Search, Classmates.com maybe or Friendster!
