With the recent abuses of the Patriot Act coming to light, do you have confidence in the performance of US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales? Should the agents who misused this law enforcement tool face criminal charges? Should Gonzales step down?

As soon as Bush forced the Patriot Act through, we all knew what was coming. Abuse of wiretaps, abuse of federal judges trying to limit the whoring of the constitution, and now, federal lawyers being sacked because they don't agree with the current admin. I'm sure Cheney was responsible, same as for that Plame deal.

Blame your legislator's for allowing the Patriot Act to become what it did. You cannot throw that kind of power out there and not expect it to be abused.

I never had confidence in anybody in the entire Bush administration from day one.

They're all either corrupt scumbag criminals or downright incompetent.

Of course, in any reputable organization everyone involved in the criminal activity would at the very least be fired and probably prosecuted, and the head of the organization would have to resign.

Just think of the recent scandal at Hewlett-Packard, where the CEO had to resign over the pretexting issue.

But not in the Bush administration. NOBODY is EVER accountable. The buck ALWAYS stops somewhere else.

Sorry to tell you this coragryp, but searching people's property without proper authorization is a form of criminal trespass at common law, so a prima facie case of criminality COULD be made for prosecution. Of course the agents would claim some kind of good faith exception but given that the people in question who were violated were never bona fide suspects to begin with, that would be a laughable argument.

Gonzales was not directly in charge of the actions that led to those abuses, and it was not his job to investigate them.

That being said, having evaluated many of his legal arguments (at least, the public ones), I don't consider him to have the best interests of the American people at heart, and I don't consider him to respect the Constitution or to act in support of it.

As to the FBI agents, no they should not face criminal charges. From the facts presented so far, none of their actions were in violation of any criminal statute. So, while the actions were often illegal, they were not criminal. There is a difference.

I have no confidence in the man or the President he serves.
He should resign.
And yes, the agents that overstepped their authority under the Patriot Act should face criminal charges.
Not that I have any cofidence that they will.
They will get away with it.
So will Mueller, Gonzales and Dumbyah.
They have zero respect for the law, and by all indications feel they are above it.

The vote of no-self belief is a considered necessary step that Congress is taking. specific, Bush is purely too conceited to care, however the certainty is that Gonzales has lost all credibility with almost each member of Congress, Republicans and Democrats. Many Republicans are reluctant to pass on checklist and admit it. A vote that forces legislators to workout their judgment of right and incorrect and do the best element for the american human beings is a strong element.

Hell no! the man has systematically subverted the constitution from day one! Out with him!

And it's not a racist attack, it's the truth. I hated Asscroft too, and he was about as white as you can get.
