She should not. Even if your hymen is broken, the gynecologist cannot determine WHY it is broken. However, if you are sexually active, you should be honest with your doctor and tell her you have, because that will influence how she treats you and what sorts of tests she may perform. Ask you mother to let you go into the exam room by yourself. If she will not agree to that, just call the office on your own, ask to speak with THE NURSE, and explain to her your situation: You have been sexually active but don't want your mother to know, and she will not agree to let you undergo the exam without her in the room with you. They HAVE to honor your privacy. It is the law.
