Today our toilets both overflowed and after plunging both they would not go down. They then worked an hour later. Then later our tubs and shower got nasty water in them. What is going on????

You may have a plugged up drain or, if you are on a septic tank system, it may need pumped out. Putting chemicals, unless they are recommended, could be dangerous or costly in the long run. Call Roto-Rooter or some other service. If you determine it is the septic tank, call a septic pumper service.

Mine does the same when the septic tank is full and needs to be pumped (cleaned). You have too much water going into the septic tank and with all the sludge build-up it's slow to empty down...hence your toilets working a hour later. And while the tank was backed up it also backed up into the tub and shower. When that happens to me I call a plumber who also cleans out septic tanks and he brings a tank truck w/a vacuum attachment that he lowers into the tank which sucks all the sludge out. You should be able to find someone in the phonebook look under septic tanks or plumbers. Also in the tank there are enzymes which breakdown the waste matter and sometimes if conditions in the tank change thay can die off and the waste isn't brokedown which can lead to the tank getting clogged and unable to drain out. I replenish the enzymes every other month with a product that you can pickup in the cleaning supply aisle @ walmart called "Rid-X" it has really helped I can go along time without any trouble. Also you might try to find where your septic line drains out and make sure it's not clogged sometimes leaves and weeds will block the opening. I just get a shovel and dig it out.Hope it helps! G.

in case you are able to flow out to the first lid of the septic tank closest to the living house on the wall of the tank you'll see a pipe there with a tee on it that is termed your baffle.maximum cases even as your septic fills it is going to plug there. It wont be a blocked vent as this may only reason a sluggish drain for each little thing and a gurgle no longer the bathroom to again up contained in the tub. if you're plunging which likely wont help you are able to get someone to help and carry a moist fabric over the overflow of the tub to boot because the drain. because those are tied jointly with the bathroom each and anytime you attempt to plunge the stress created is going to to there quite of the blockage.in case you do not have help duck tape will artwork to boot. even as think about to do the sink to boot. attempt to apply a closet auger on the bathroom and pipe outside in case you cant get it you want a huge auger.

Sounds like you have a clogged sewer line. Better call Roto Rooter or another sewer cleaning service.
The reason it works after an hour or two is the water in the pipe will slowly leak past the blockage.

you have a clog somewhere. I don't know what you recently had "re-piped" but even new pipes can become plugged with the right conditions. If you have or can rent a snake you can try to clear it yourself if not I'd suggest calling a sewer cleaning service. If the new pipe you had installed was a sewer main from the street to the house, call whoever did the work. I'll guarentee you have a stoppage somewhere.

DO NOT CALL ROTO ROOTER! DO NOT USE CRYTAL DRANO!
you have a clog down the sewer main. it is not that big of a problem to fix it your self. home depot and lowes sells a rubber thing to put on the end of your garden hose. it is called a drain king. it cost about $14 dollars. you hook it to the end of your garden hose and stick it in the clean out out in your yard and turn it on for a few mins. that should blow it out.
get your tubs and toilets to back up again. remove the cap on the clean out. if it is full of water, run the hose in the pipe so it goes away from the house. if it has no water, aim it towards the house. if you aim it twords the house, have someone inside to make sure it dont flood the house. after it runs awhile, about 10 mins.turn the water off and pull it out. look in the pipe. the water should be running out good. good luck.

If you are in a house you need to call Roto-Rooter. Sounds like you have roots growing in your sewer drains which is plugging them up and causing sewage to back up into your tub and shower. (If you are in an apartment you need to call maintenance.) I've had this happen in both my old house and my new apartment. If you ignore it the roots will just grow into the sewer drains more and you will have sewage back up into your house. Good Luck!

Your airvent pipes are probably stopped up. Have someone go up on the roof and vacuum them out with a shop vac. Also vacuum your drain or take the trap off of all of your drains and clean them, replace and whala you should be good to go. If you have a Rainbow vacuum or can borrow one this works great for vacuuming the traps out without removing them.

A drain is stopped up or your septic tank needs pumped out. Call a plumber. Dont try to do it yourself.

Could be that your septic tank is full. Dont wait to long cuz if that is the fact it could damage your drain field and that is very costly. Call and have it pumped soon.
