This car has a 351C 4bbl. when I turn the car on even with the idle spring turned all the way, the car idles like someone has the pedal to the medal. does anyone have any ideas? maybe it is something with the vacuum lines? Thanks in advance.

It is a brand new edlebrock carb.

i take it you got the correct carb for the size engine what is the cfm rating of it? (600 to 850 be plenty) not that it should mater that much as it sounds like more of a vacumme leak. jets could be to big? choke sticking?.... have a look at the throttle plates down your carb when not running if they open more than a few millimeters then setup could be wrong.

almost sounds like a leak under the carb or intake manifold.

Take a can of starting fluid and spray it under your carb to see if the gasket is getting suction by it. The rpm's will increase when you do that or at least find your leaker. Check all your lines for cracks or off its vacuum outlets.
