I know a girl that is born in the US and she looks hispanic or mexican, has a mexican last name (maiden name) , is married to a mexican but she hates it when they think she doesn't speak english, she says she is not mexican, obviously she looks mexican, but I don't understand why she is so bothered by it. She says she is not white or indian or hispanic so I wonder WHAT IS SHE?

So I guess she is Native American, cuz she says she was born here, her parents were born here, and her grandpartents. I'm mexican cuz I was born in Mexico, and I thought chicana was mexican american.

Have you asked what her background is? If she doesn't tell you, it means she's ashamed of it (although I find this stupid because we should all be proud of our heritage).

Wait wait wait wait!!!
First of all, one thing is a name with a Mexican etimology and another very different is a Mexican-American person with a Spanish name.
Most of the Mexican people use Spanish or foreign names for their kids. Don't you know about Mexico's history and its conquest? if not, check it out.
Also, You cannot say MEXICAN NAME because it doesn't make sense.. at least if you mean an indigenous name of any aborigene dialect (such as nahuatl, maya, totonaca, etc...) so i'd believe so. Answer me one question, what's her name? I could tell you who she is ethnically speaking.
1. maybe she is HISPANIC but from other country
2. maybe she is Native American - Hispanic
3. maybe she is a moron who denies about her identity and hides her ethnic background.
4. maybe she has received bunch of discrimination so she just wanna shut up... anyways, try to find out.

She's just a an unadapted poor person. When you reach the level of hating your own kind, you are a person without values and love, not even for your own parents. A person who denies his/her roots deserves no trusting, a perso who denies his/her roots got poor values and the auto esteem is not present.
