I have a 5 dollar bill that I found randomly in my money the other day. It's dated Series 1963. Below is a scanned image of it. It's actually in pretty good condition. It would defintely pass the vending machine test.

Is it worth much?

1963: Both the $5 United States Note and Federal Reserve Note were revised with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST added to the reverse and WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND removed from the obverse. Also, the obligation on the Federal Reserve Note was changed to its current wording, THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.

Series 1963 $5 United States Note. Urban legend erroneously holds that the red seal from that year onward was done in mourning of the Kennedy assassination

I think the fold in the bill have decrested the value if any.

It may be worth something to a collector; only a numismatist will be able to tell for sure. The bill is somewhat unusual in that it is a United States Note, sometimes called a greenback. None of these have been issued for a while; Federal Reserve Notes are the only kind of paper money now in circulation.

If there are no stains or writing on the back of the bill, it is likely in "very good" condition as far as I can tell. The 2003 Blackbook Price Guide to United States Paper Money lists the average retail price for that bill in "good" condition as $7.50 and in "very fine" condition as $12.50. Since "very good" falls between those, I think the price you would pay to buy that bill fron a dealer would be around $10.00. Of course, if you sell it to a dealer he will pay you less than that since he has to make a profit to stay in business.

In that condition, it's worth roughly $6-$6.50. Dealers will pay you face value of $5 or a few quarters more.
