You do the FOIL method First Outer Inner Last

X x X= x squared
then X x 5 is 5X
then 2 x X us 2X
then 2 x 5 is 10

therefore you have X squared + 7X + 10

x^2 + 7x + 10 (x^2 = x squared)

Here's how

you use the foil method (first, outer, inner, last)
step 1. multiply the first two terms (x * x) = x^2
step 2. multiply the ouside terms (x * 5) = 5x
step 3. multiply the inside terms (x * 2) = 2x
step 4. multiply the last terms (2 * 5) = 10
so you get x^2 + 5x +2x + 10
step 5. simplify by adding 5x and 2x
answer: x^2 + 7x + 10

7x + 10

Break it apart.

(x+2)(x+5) =
x(x+5) + 2(x+5) =
(x^2 + 5x) + (2x + 10) =
x^2 + 7x + 10

The answer is x squared +7x +10. it's called the F.O.I.L. method. you take the first two numbers or variables and multiply them in sequence from first, outer, inner, last

so:

X times x

x times 5

2 times x

and two times five

then combine like terms.
